ALMOST READY FOR BEAD & BUTTON 2008 SHOW

It's less than a week to the Bead & Button 2008 Show and yes, I am in the final phase of getting ready for my flight on June 2nd. I am still making beads, which is rather unusual as in the past, I stop my studio work almost one week before my flight. I am probably compensating for the weekend which I spent in Düsseldorf, where I took tap-dancing workshops. Guilty conscience, perhaps?

My last post was about working with lines ('Jewel of the Nile') - I have worked on several color combinations and variations although I kept the light sky blue mainly for my line work. I have also used coral and light ivory in the line work in some of the beads. The below picture shows the latest 'line' beads, a very colorful collection -

'Summer Highlights'
Bead size: each about 1.5 x 1.6cm

The next lot of black-and-white beads are a continuation of the series which I started in April and I had set a target of 100 black-and-white beads. Yes, I have made more than 100 by early May! Below is a photo of some of the b&w beads -

Anna Karenina 2008 Series -
Black-and-White Collection
Bead size: each about 1.5 x 1.6cm

More of the Anna Karenina Series in an array of colors against the black base. This is also a continuation of the beads I started in April.

'Twirls and Swirls' are large round beads, the below photo shows both the relief and smooth designs. Totally fun beads!

'TWIRLS AND SWIRLS'
Bead size: each about 1.8 x 2.0cm
The past week was spent making 'Window Beads' - all beads in the below photo are made with Bullseye glass. Bullseye makes fabulous glass, it's such a pleasure to work with this glass. The glass is obviously very different from the Italian glass - which loves to pit and scum. Bullseye glass is 'stiffer' than the Effetre or Vetrofond glass and I love the way it lets me work on my designs as well as the effect it creates. The stringer work looks like it is drawn with illustration markers or felt markers.

Being a non-professional photographer, I have experienced difficulties in capturing the transparent glass and regret to say that I just can't capture that particular characteristic of the glass for these beads. The transparent colored glass looks matt in the photo but in reality is very shiny. All designs are made with either antique white or French vanilla and the dots are have a gold to metallic finish.

'WINDOW BEADS'
